Serbia is facing the menace of dangerous social engineering legislation
Pauvres Serbes… That is how the French used to express their compassion for the hardships endured by their Serbian allies in World War I. It was a noble sentiment at the time of its articulation. Unfortunately, however, ever since then the trajectory followed by the Serbian people was decidedly downward. The reasons for that in many cases clearly had to do the operations of powerful and unfriendly foreign interests. But just as often, it was because the Serbian people themselves, at key junctures, either had made catastrophically bad choices or they elected, or passively supported (perhaps tolerated would be a better word) in positions of authority politicians who were making appalling choices in their name.
The senseless drift into the European Union (setting aside the very relevant question of whether becoming part of that reincarnation of the USSR was ever realistic or desirable) now – thank God – appears to be the option supported by a steadily declining portion of the Serbian public. But there were periods when the uncritical clamor to join, literally at any price, that supra-national conglomerate obsessed a significant majority. It goes without saying that not even a tiny portion of Serbian EU devotes had even the vaguest notion of where they were going. But large numbers were unconditionally and enthusiastically in favor of joining that internationalist arrangement in the naïve hope that the introduction of its “progressive” legislation would automatically engender in Serbia the long dreamt implementation of the rule of law. Equally if not more important it was thought that the infusion (as they had imagined) of virtually unlimited cash from Brussels would not just promote the economic development of devastated Serbia, but would also accrue in tangible material benefits to every single one of its inhabitants. That was the gist of the infantile Euro-integrationist philosophy of the critical mass of Serbs over the past years. EU accession, deus ex machina, by a single stroke, would effortlessly, solve all principal problems of a ravaged country and its broken people.
Of course, the “rule of law” and “European way of life” fictions in a disintegrating country – although there were many who sincerely believed in those tales – were but a fig leaf which was there to cover the genuine and deepest motive behind the demand for joining the EU whatever the price. The most profound enticement was the delusional and politically illiterate individual expectation of deriving material utility. According to the uninformed opinion of those dilettantes, cash benefits would immediately follow upon joining the European block, accompanied with practically unlimited opportunities to participate in a prosperity without bounds.
The warning of those who knew what the European Union was and how it functioned, that it was not a mechanism for the altruistic production and broad distribution of cash and material goods, but an ideological project, were pointedly ignored. There was a time when virtually nobody in Serbia was willing to hear the simple truth that within the foundations of that ideological project was embedded an objective to fundamentally restructure society, and to do so in a way that would make the vast majority of Serbs – had they only been aware of the nature of those objectives – shudder. But few paid serious attention.
As for the serious questions, they were raised by practically none. For instance, why would the European Union admit into its ranks seven million Serbs, out of the goodness of its heart, for the sole purpose of making the pauvres Serbes beneficiaries of a European personal income and partakers of the blessings of the “European way of life,” whatever that is supposed to mean? Were there, by chance, hidden behind the carrot of “European standards,” any conditions and expectations that Serbia would have to fulfil and to which its citizens would have to assent? When and where did anyone see anything comparable, that countries were being showered with generous benefits, such as delusional Serbs were expecting from the EU, without anything being demanded in return? And what, specifically, might be expected of Serbia in return for such huge benefits, assuming that Brussels was in a position and had a genuine desire to bestow them upon the good people of Serbia?
In terms of the great geopolitical game the answer to this elementary question is clear – the prize was always Kosovo. By synchronized operation of pro-European propaganda and the political power structure in Serbia, by spreading illusions about alleged timetables for accession (the singular direction of their movement always being toward an ever more distant future), and by resorting to marketing tricks of the sort “if we just open” this or that new chapter in the accession process, for a long time and with considerable success the stage was being set for the concept of trading something real, Kosovo, for the imaginary benefits of a comfortable “European” way of life. Now, however, Serbia is almost imperceptibly entering the second phase, which is the imposition of the ideological principles of the European Union. Those principles had remained unknown virtually to all, with the exception of a handful of adepts.
This phase is being introduced now with the legislative project for the adoption of legislation which is obligatory in all European countries which are members of the EU. Such laws must be accepted and implemented, as a condition of admission, by countries which aspire to become members. To that end, the authorities have pulled out of their hat and disclosed to the public and the National Assembly new legislation that would legally recognize same-sex couples, on a par with opposite-sex spuses of traditional families. To say that this is a proposal would not be entirely correct because in the context of EU accession it is not something that could be discussed and ultimately rejected. That the traditional family and its ideological facsimile should be ranked as equals before Serbian law is not a proposal, it is a directive. It is a project, an obligatory legal measure that the dependent, neo-colonial political nomenclature has taken it upon itself to legalize and implement. As with Kosovo, there will be no public debate, mainly because in the present situation such a debate would be superfluous. In the 2020 phoney election the nomenclature got for itself a one-party National Assembly of morons whom it fully controls. They will not think twice to obey the command to raise their arms and vote for any measure put before them, no matter how destructive, if that is what it takes for those parasites to hold on to their parliamentary jobs, with the attendant income and benefits.
Confirming the correctness of our assessment is the meeting of the Serbian justice minister and the head of the European Union delegation in Belgrade, held on 10 February 2021. The topic, as announced officially, were “constitutional amendments and deadlines for changes in Serbia’s Constitution.” The issues that were on the table concerned “the process of European integration and … harmonization of Serbian laws with those of the European Union.” That was an unambiguous allusion to Kosovo, which is constitutionally defined as an integral part of Serbia and cannot easily be jettisoned unless the Constitution is amended, and to same-sex unions, which would require amending the constitutional definition of marriage as a union of two persons of the opposite sex.
Why would Serbia, which is not an EU member, be synchronizing its laws with EU regulations? That is one of the key unasked questions to which, naturally, no reasonable answer has ever been provided. Of interest, however, is the Serbian Justice Minister’s statement in the context of the said meeting, that “Serbia is working diligently on fulfilling the European agenda and on synchronising its laws with EU regulations in order to advance at a more accelerated pace toward EU membership.” This policy statement gives the whole game away.
But the legalization of same sex marriage (or partnerships, as they are discretely known for the moment), which plainly devalues the essential definition and challenges the significance of the traditional family, is just the tip of this particular iceberg. What follows immediately, and is being craftily imbued in the public mind as a collateral principle, is the right of members of the newly promoted same-sex families to adopt children. If you start off from axioms that are different from Euclid’s you can, of course, develop a new geometry which is internally consistent but entirely different from the Euclidian. That means that if you introduce into your legal system the institution of same-sex union (which will soon be openly renamed “marriage”), and at the same time you recognize the principles of non-discrimination and equality before the law, you no longer have any choice except to concede also to same-sex spouses the right to adopt children, which is already a recognized right of spouses in traditional families.
What further steps the Serbian political establishment has been instructed to take in this matter may be judged by the statement of the Prime Minister indicating that the ban on artificial insemination for same-sex couples shall be lifted, following European standards, of course.
Since what is at issue is an ideologically dictated measure, rather than a studious conclusion about the course of action recommended as the most conducive to social improvement, no consideration is being given – and never will be – to issues such as children’s emotional needs, interests, or health.
Is the Serbian public prepared for the announced restructuring of their legal system and the introduction of such radical deviations from cultural norms which have served the Serbian people so well over the centuries, and can continue to do so successfully in the future?
At the moment, the official announcement of this bizarre legal scheme has been met with graveyard silence in Serbia, as if it concerned a minor statutory adjustment. The “public,” already accustomed to their role in political controversies as stage extras, are silent because they know full well that any pronouncement on the “wrong” side of this issue could attract the attention of the Equality Ombudsman, resulting in being dragged through the courts and having to pay hefty discrimination fines. Just as silent are the moral authorities, such as the Church, currently busy preparing to select its new head and searching for adequate luxury accommodations for its bishops for the duration of the forthcoming assembly. Also silent is the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences which, by contrast, found it appropriate recently in the person of its president and without major dissent from its members to call for renouncing Kosovo as an integral part of Serbia. Silent as well are the political parties and associations, columnists and “analysts” who, until recently, were perceived as the most outspoken advocates of “family values”. Dveri’s carefully calibrated statement on the subject, expressing concern and calling for a referendum, is a relative exception. But they should be reminded that this is a fundamental issue and not a routine matter susceptible of being decided by majority vote, either by referendum or in parliament, such as it is.
Taking into account the huge batch of “European laws” due to be dumped on Serbia, the introduction of same-sex marriage is just the overture. The ultimate victims of this insane, ideologically driven scheme will be innocent children who will have been deprived of being reared in a milieu that nature has ordained as optimal and singularly appropriate for their normal development. The legal measures which are yet to follow will be even uglier and more inhumane.
But even this much is enough to render implausible the pretext of ignorantia invincibilis. Now that it is abundantly clear what is coming no one has any longer the slightest excuse for remaining silent and meekly embracing evil.
